Tris is also known as tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane; tromethamine; tromethamine; 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol in Chinese. It is a white crystal or powder. It is soluble in ethanol and water, slightly soluble in ethyl acetate and benzene, insoluble in carbon tetrachloride, corrosive to copper and aluminum, and an irritating chemical.
Tris is mainly used as a pharmaceutical intermediate; it can be used as a biological buffer and a reference substance for acid titration; it is also used as a biochemical reagent and an intermediate for fosfomycin; it can also be used as a vulcanization accelerator, cosmetics (creams, lotions), mineral oil, paraffin emulsifier, and biological buffer.
