Luminol, also known as luminol, photosensitive amine, and luminol, is a universal luminescent chemical reagent that emits a striking blue light when mixed with an appropriate oxidant. It is a white to pale yellow crystal that is soluble in most organic polar solvents but insoluble in water. Luminol is used in forensics to examine traces of blood at crime scenes, and in biology as a substrate to detect the presence of copper, iron, and cyanide in cells.
Used as chemiluminescent analysis detection reagents, such as: determination of metal cations, blood and glucocorticoids.
